SPEECH SITUATIONS AS MEANS OF CONCEPT ACTUALIZATION (based on the text of J. Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice”)

Abstract

The given paper is a fragment of analysis of conceptual features of the COUNTRY HOUSE conceptosphere, using texts of English ‘country house novels’, in the context of research devoted to the problem of describing components and development of the named conceptosphere in the British linguaculture. Using the method of micro-subject analysis of speech interactions between the characters in the key points of the narrative scheme of J. Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice”, in speech situations of the following types: “familiar and friendly talks”, “visits”, “balls and parties”, “excursions”, the author passes to the conclusion about the range and specifics of actualization of conceptual features of HOME / ДОМ, FAMILY / СЕМЬЯ, GENTLEMANLINESS / ДЖЕНТЛЬМЕНТСТВО, HERITAGE / НАСЛЕДИЕ concepts, and also about the fundamental role of individual/social dichotomy in the described conceptosphere. The results of the research may be used while elaborating educational courses on the English language, cultural studies and history of foreign literature.
