MANIPULATIVE TECHNOLOGY OF USING POLITICALLY CORRECT WORDS IN DISCOURSE

Abstract

The paper claims the idea that the use of politically correct words and phrases in discourse has a technological nature. The purpose of the paper is to describe technological regularities of manipulative use of politically correct words in discourse. The definitions of communicative technology, technologization of discourse are considered; the content of the notion «manipulative technology» in linguistics is specified. The detailed analysis of political discourse of G. W. Bush Jr. reveals a series of successive communicative actions taken by the politician to manipulate human consciousness. The methodological principles of the analysis are A. M. Kaplunenko’s theoretical views on the technological nature of manipulation. The following linguistic methods are used: interpretative method, the method of definition analysis, the method of pragmalinguistic analysis, the methods of logical-rhetoric and semantic analyses. The results and materials of the study can be used in the sphere of scientific research and education: in developing and teaching the courses in intercultural communication, the theory of communication, text interpretation and discourse analysis.
