TO THE ISSUE OF STRUCTURAL AND SEMANTIC FEATURES OF WORDS IN SCIENCE FICTION WORKS IN THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE

Abstract

The paper is devoted to the issue of new words formation and consideration of the realias expressed by them. The word-formation patterns and the types of change of meaning of the words already existing in the English language are studied on the basis of the works by A. Clarke and R. Bradbury. The analysis showed that the neologisms of science fiction are made according to the main patterns existing in modern English. Derivation, compounding and shortening are among them. The study shows that neologisms are used to denote geographical objects, technical devices, objects of everyday life of possible worlds created in the named literary works.
