RUSSIAN WOMEN’S IMAGE IN THE MODERN FRENCH LITERATURE

Abstract

The paper focuses on the analysis of stereotypes about Russian women in the modern French literature. It specifies the role of stereotypes in the perception of the unknown culture and its negative impact on the creation of Russian women’s image in the public perception. The author comes to the conclusion that the intention of writers to bring the image of a representative of a different culture within the sweep of an average reader, representing their own culture, limits that image by stereotypical categories, which do not reflect the real features and qualities of the representative of a different culture.
