'THE INNOCENT AND YOUNG…' (A CHILD AS A CERTAIN TYPE OF CHARACTER IN LONDON TEXT OF ENGLISH LITERATURE)

Abstract

The paper is devoted to the analysis of the London text of English literature that is one of the main super-texts in Anglo-Saxon culture. London text of English literature almost has almost never been analyzed before. The paper aims at analyzing the peculiarities of a child as one of the certain types of characters in London text of English literature, which shows the worldview of this super-text. The author researches interpretation and representation of the key concept child in novels by D. Defoe, Ch. Dickens, J. Greenwood, F. Burnett, etc. This concept often gains meaning of 'desolated' in London text of English literature, and the death of the young characters is often one of the main events in the super-text. This concept helps to create the urban space where kindness and innocence are almost confused with evil and sin. The results of this research can be used in further analysis of London text of English literature, and other urban super-texts.
