PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS OF RELIGIOUS TOURISM DEVELOPMENT IN THE REGIONS OF SOUTH-WESTERN SIBERIA

Abstract

The paper is devoted to the analysis of the prospects of religious tourism development in the regions of SouthWestern Siberia. Peculiar features of religious tourism as a tourist product are considered , excursion basis for developing this niche is studied. The author analyses the objects of religious worship belonging to the world religions as well as to religious beliefs of Siberian indigenous peoples. Possibilities of their usage within excursion activities are estimated.
Predominance of orthodox churches is marked, other confessions are presented at a much less degree. Besides, the paper notes predominance of present-day buildings over undestroyed monuments of pre-revolutionary Russia that can be referred to as historical and cultural heritage of the regions.
The author concludes that the existing excursion basis allows development of religious tourism in South-Western Siberia regions, though this niche, as well as other domestic types of tourism, has its challenges that can be overcome with common efforts of local authorities, church organizations and businesses.
