NOVOSIBIRSK AS THE GATEWAY OF TOURISM IN SIBERIA: OPPORTUNITY OR ILLUSION

Abstract

The research focuses on the recreational and geographical position of Novosibirsk. The logical analysis of the city’s recreational and geographic location is important for determining its competitive position in the regional tourism market. By means of logical analysis of recreation and geographical location the authors assess the positive and negative determinants of tourist attractiveness of Novosibirsk regional tourism market. In the research the authors developed and used the model-map “recreational-geographic location of Novosibirsk”, which allows setting the location of the city and the region in the tourist market of Siberia, as well as evaluating the tourist potential of the area and potential strategic risks by the loss of leading positions. The authors proved that a significant share of the tourist flow and the tourism market of Novosibirsk is due to the favorable geographical location of the city. The growing risks of decrease in the tourist attractiveness of the city are identified. The main activities for maintaining the tourist flows on the territory of Novosibirsk Region are proposed.
